RiverValley Behavioral Health has named the winners of its 2025 Youth Mental Health Art Contest, celebrating the theme “Be Kind to Your Mind.”

This year’s contest drew dozens of creative submissions from students across the region, showcasing not only artistic talent but also heartfelt messages about mental health awareness and well-being.

“We are continually impressed by the talent, creativity, and thoughtfulness demonstrated by the youth in our community,” said Brooke Arnold, RiverValley’s Regional Prevention Center Director. “It is inspiring to see so many schools and organizations encouraging students to engage with mental health awareness in such a meaningful way.”

Local artists and creatives, including Brab Birgy of WBKR, Will Evans, Aaron Kizer, and Andrea Roberson of Tanner+West, served as external judges.

Division winners include Ollie Howard (North Hancock Elementary, K-4), Millie Leonard (John Paul II Catholic School, 5-8), Emma Peercy (Owensboro High School, 9-12), and Tess Hayden of Bellarmine University (college level).

Other recognized students are Maxwell Johns, Matthew Daniel, Josie Critcheloe, Sophie Clark, Hailey Brooks, Morgan Cole, Larken Roach, Mercy Tanner, Bobby Marsh and Leah Hunley.

In addition, Debbie Zuerner, Owensboro Health’s Director of Community Engagement, received the second annual Dianne McFarling Memorial Award for her outstanding dedication to improving mental health in the region.

John Paul II Catholic School was named Mental Health Partner of the Year for submitting the most student art entries.

“This contest continues to serve as an important platform for our young people to express their creativity while advocating for mental health,” said Dr. Wanda Figueroa-Peralta, RiverValley’s president and CEO.

All winners were honored during an awards ceremony on Wednesday.
