RiverValley Behavioral Health is hosting a grand opening for The Gathering Place – a recovery community center – on September 27. The Gathering Place will serve as a hub for recovery resources, services, and supports for those coping with a substance use disorder and/or co-occurring mental illness — all in a “warm, inviting, café-style environment.”

“The Gathering Place is more than a recovery resource center; it is a safe, sober space where individuals can drop-in as needed to receive support and build healthy connections to assist them on their recovery journey,” said Dr. Wanda Figueroa-Peralta, RVBH President & CEO.

The Gathering Place is located at 400 East 4th Street in the former Church for All building. The grand opening will be from 12-2 p.m. on September 27. The facility will be open 7 days a week from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will be operated by recovery and peer support specialists.

The project was funded by a $600,000 grant from the Kentucky Department of Behavioral Health. RVBH will work within their internal programs, outside providers, the judicial system, and families to promote participation and engagement.

In addition to providing a drug-free, social environment, The Gathering Place will host support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and SMART Recovery. It will also host recovery celebrations and prevention events, as well as provide access to services, such as medical screenings, linkage to housing assistance, job opportunities, supported employment, and more.

“The journey to recovery is unique for everyone, and that is the foundational idea that has led to the development of The Gathering Place, a warm, inviting, café-style environment where those in recovery can have easy access to the support, resources, and connections they need to find healing, self-discovery, and growth,” Figueroa-Peralta said. “We are here to make our community thrive and help those in recovery to embrace a brighter future. The path to recovery starts here.”

The Gathering Place, located at 400 E. 4th Street, Owensboro, KY 42303, will be open 7 days a week, 8 AM to 8 PM, starting Sept. 28, 2023, and will be operated by recovery and peer support specialists.
