RiverValley Behavioral Health’s Regional Prevention Center is sponsoring a free Drug Endangered Children (DEC) Awareness Training. The training is targeted towards individuals who play an active role in helping prevent child maltreatment, with a goal to break cycles of substance misuse, reduce trauma, and promote overall community health and well-being.
There will be multiple training sessions provided. Sessions in Owensboro will take place at the Kentucky Wesleyan College Jack T. Wells Activity Center from 9-11 a.m. or 1:30-3:30 p.m. on September 7.
“The training, presented by the National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children, is an opportunity for various disciplines and sectors within the community to increase their knowledge and understanding of the risks drug endangered children face, and the need for multidisciplinary, collaborative responses to better meet the unique needs of these children,” according to a release from RVBH.
The training is geared toward roles including first responders, educators, probation and parole officers, care providers, and community members.
“DEC Awareness Training will help our communities learn the importance of having a multidisciplinary response so that we can combine our resources and expertise to better serve children in our communities,” said Brooke Arnold, Director of the RVBH Regional Prevention Center. “Rather than working in silos, having a truly collaborative approach will provide better care for drug endangered children.”
